For those looking to move abroad to visit, work, or call home, it's never been easier to qualify.
Canada has always had a rich and storied relationship with the United Kingdom, and Brits have always made Canada a preferred immigration destination. Still, since the Brexit referendum, immigration from the UK to Canada has been a hot topic for many Brits looking for a new life elsewhere and moving to Canada.
Here are five Canadian immigration pathways to move from the United Kingdom to Canada.
Brits between the ages of 18 and 30 interested in moving from the United Kingdom to Canada have the option of applying for the International Experience Canada program. This program allows you to move to Canada and get a temporary working visa of up to 24 months.
You need to show that you have at least CAN $2,500 to keep you going once you arrive, as well as a return ticket and proof that you have health insurance. Dependents may not accompany applicants and you can participate in IEC only once.
Each year between 6,000 and 9,000 UK citizens move to Canada and become permanent residents in Canada. Express Entry is the popular Canadian immigration pathway, whereby you can immigrate from the UK to Canada by either applying for Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trade (FST) or Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
All of these pathways provide permanent residence for those who qualify, and selection is assessed using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and based on a total score of 1,200.
The Provincial Nominee and Pilot Programs (PNP) can either be streamlined through Express Entry or directly through the provinces. Like Express Entry, your level of education, age, work experience and language ability are assessed.
If you want to move to Canada and have a valid job offer or a provincial nomination, you can acquire an additional 50, 200, and 600 CRS points. Each province and territory has its targeted streams and requirements. This is another excellent way to immigrate from the UK to Canada pathway to become a permanent resident.
You can visit from the UK for up to six months a year without a visa, so if you don’t mind having two homes, that might be an option and fly between the United Kingdom to Canada. However, if you have a child or grandchild who is a Canadian citizen, you may want to stay longer without the need to renew your status.
The parent or grandparent ‘super visa’ allows for visits of up to two years and provides for multi-entry within ten years.
To apply for a work permit, you need a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) number from an employer. This shows proof that you’ve had a job offer and that you have the qualifications and skills needed for that role and confirms that the employer can’t find a Canadian available to do it as well as you can and move to Canada.
