Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) is an innovative partnership aimed at attracting and retaining skilled immigrants and international graduates to meet the unique workforce needs of the Atlantic region in New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
The goal is to ensure the long-term retention and integration of newcomers for Canadian permanent residence in Atlantic Canada to help drive economic growth.
Interested employers must apply to become a Designated Employer through their Provincial Immigration Office.
Once an employer receives their designation, they can recruit an employee to move to Canada. There is no need for an employer to apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
An employer can make as many job offers as they like; however, a settlement assessment will need to be done for each employee. The AIPP has three programs for employees:
High-skilled worker – must have a Canadian high school or post-secondary credential or equivalent foreign credential (ECA), at least one year’s experience in their field, and a job offer for at least one year.
Intermediate-skilled worker –
must have a Canadian high school or post-secondary credential or equivalent foreign credential (ECA), at least one year’s experience in their field, and a permanent job offer.
International Graduate –
must have graduated from a publicly funded Atlantic Canadian post-secondary institution after at least two years of full-time study, lived in an Atlantic province for 16-24 months before graduation and have a job offer for at least one year. There is no work experience required for this class.
(This pilot closes in February 2024.) The new Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) will allow community groups in eleven municipalities to work with local employers to hire skilled workers.
It’s designed to spread the benefits of economic immigration to smaller communities by creating a path to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers who want to work and live in one of the participating communities.
Over three years, the RNIP aims to attract immigrants of various skill levels to fill full-time and year-round positions.
The eleven communities in five provinces chosen to participate in the immigration pilot project are West Kootenay (BC), Vernon (BC), Claresholm (AB), Moose Jaw (SK), Brandon (MB), Rhineland, Plum Coulee, Gretna, Altona (MB), Thunder Bay (ON), Sault Ste. Marie (ON), Sudbury (ON), Timmins (ON), and North Bay (ON). The RNIP will be launched in participating communities at different times.
RNIP will offer community support to help settle and integrate newcomers who can apply for permanent residency.
The communities identified have a high quality of life; each is a prosperous economic centre with a low population.
IRCC will also work closely with its identified communities to find suitable candidates. It wants these communities to become welcoming places to live and work for immigrants who choose to come.

The Agri-Food Immigration Pilot (AFIP) is designed to help address the labour needs of the Canadian Agri-food sector. One key to success for Canadian farmers and food processors is their ability to recruit and retain a skilled workforce.
The government recognizes that the agricultural sector in Canada has a growing shortage of permanent residence year-round employees and is dedicated to finding a solution that works.
Important Note: The IRCC has
announces an extension to the Agri-Food Pilot, facilitating access to permanent residence for workers and their families, and we will accept applications until May 14, 2025.
The Agri-Food Immigration is targeting workers for meat processing and mushroom farming. Both of these industries face some of the most significant labour shortages. The five-year pilot opened in early 2020.
These are the occupations and industries eligible under the pilot:
Meat processing, retail butcher, Industrial butcher, Food processing labourer, harvesting labourer, general farm worker and farm supervisor for meat processing, year-round mushroom production, greenhouse crop production or livestock raising.
There are no longer annual occupational caps or limits for how many candidates can apply for a specific occupation under the pilot. Approved applicants can also bring their families to Canada.
Agricultural employers participating must have been authorized on a work permit issued based on a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) for at least 12 months.
The pilot could help thousands of people like you and your family become permanent residents. We are pleased to see greater flexibility in the program and look forward to working with you.
Want to get to permanent residence sooner? Alberta has a plan for tech-savvy immigration.
Tech professionals from across Canada and overseas with a job offer in an in-demand tech industry job will be fast-tracked.
The technology sector has a problem and is looking to solve the worker shortage by fast-tracking permanent Alberta residency for highly skilled professionals.
Alberta is not all about oil and gas; it is now home to over 3,000 tech companies, according to a 2021 technology flow study.
The Accelerated Tech Pathway (ATP) will help attract the best and the brightest talent from around the world with the idea that they will settle in Alberta to meet the job shortage demand. This also ensures that Alberta remains the top destination for tech investment – to diversify the economy by filling necessary jobs with qualified and skilled workers.
The ATP began accepting applications last month to the Alberta Immigration Nominee Program (AINP).
Under this new pathway, tech professionals from across Canada and overseas can become permanent residents in as little as six months if they have a job offer in an in-demand tech industry occupation. Along with priority application processing, tech professionals will receive a letter of support from the Government of Alberta if they require a work permit.
Similar to other express immigration routes in Alberta, to apply, potential employees must first go through the process to start an express entry profile.
This accelerated pathway in Alberta is a fantastic opportunity for those that qualify. Having the talent, skills and education can give the candidate a competitive advantage in immigrating to Canada.
